THERAPY

The relationship IS the therapy

Counselling is a 'talking therapy' which aims to bring about self awareness, growth and healing through the relationship between client and counsellor. It provides a confidential space for you to talk through your thoughts and feelings with a non-judgemental, professional person.

Absolutely everybody faces difficulty in their lives at some point and we don't always have the resources to cope with things on our own. In your therapy sessions I will offer you new tools, coping strategies, perspectives and resources so that you can improve your wellbeing. Most importantly I will listen, so you can feel heard and understood. Through the process you can find a new way forward.

Connection: The energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued...when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship

My approach

As a Humanistic-Integrative practitioner, I incorporate techniques and understandings from a range of therapeutic approaches so that I can provide counselling that is appropriate to you and the issues you bring. Counselling is a collaborative effort and I will work with you to create insight, healing and growth.

My main theoretical influences are Humanistic, Mindfulness, Polyvagal theory, Psychodynamic & Compassion Focused Therapy. There is more about my approach and qualifications on the 'About Me' page.

Diversity & Inclusion in therapy

I welcome clients of all genders, sexualities, cultures, religions, neurodiversity and skin colour. If you have a disability please get in touch to see how I can adjust to meet your needs. The garden summerhouse is accessed via steps and uneven ground, if this is not suitable for you we can work online or outside in a local park.

I am trauma trained and my commitment to cultural competency is ongoing. I regularly attend training, read literature and speak to people about their lived experience so I can provide an inclusive & informed practice. My aim is to treat everyone as a valued individual; you are welcome here.

How therapy sessions work

Counselling sessions are 50 minutes and take place weekly or fortnightly at a set time. Infrequent, ad hoc sessions are also available dependant on availability.

I work in an open ended way - there is no set number of sessions. Some people come for a couple of months, others for over a year. We review as we go along.

Sessions can take place in my purpose built summerhouse, outside in a local park or online via Zoom. Please let me know your preference when you get in touch.

Location & Fees

My therapy days are: Tuesday 9am-5pm, Wednesday 2-8pm, Friday 9am-5pm

50 minute therapy session: £60

Reduced rate: £45 (limited availability)

You can either begin with a free 20 minute initial consultation (a conversation about counselling, via phone/zoom) or a full 50 minute session.

In person sessions are held at my therapy summerhouse in Salford (M6 area) or you can work with me online via Zoom.

Coming to therapy is an act of courage & hope.

It is normal to feel daunted by the idea of coming to therapy, I understand that asking for help may have been a big step. I have great respect for anyone who can recognise they are struggling and decide to do something about it. I am here to be alongside you as you create a happier, healthier life for yourself.

Through understanding yourself better you can learn to be more compassionate, present and aware. This leads to new perspectives, behaviours and decisions that can improve your life.

Therapy in nature

In addition to indoors and online, I offer ‘walk and talk’ therapy sessions which take place in parks and green spaces in Salford. There's lots of evidence to suggest that walking in nature helps us think and feel better so it can be the ideal way to improve your mental health.

Walking sessions are a great option for those wanting one off or infrequent sessions as a mental health check in or to talk through a specific issue that you don't feel requires weekly counselling. It can also be a nice way to transition from regular weekly sessions to infrequent sessions as we move towards ending our work together - literally taking what you've learned out into the world with me by your side.

For new clients we will need to have a video call consultation first, this is free and takes about 20 minutes.

Working outside isn't suitable for everyone though; do get in touch if you'd like to see if it's right for you.
